We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting the future of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and breaking down barriers to social mobility. Career guidance experience isn’t necessary.
We will help provide the tools and knowledge you will need to support students, but we believe that the real impact our volunteers can have is listening to a student, demonstrating compassion, recognising their uniqueness and potential, and so empowering them to achieve their own aspirations.
The requirements needed to fulfil any volunteer role at MyBigCareer include:
- Enhanced DBS certificate*.
- Willing to attend training at MyBigCareer.
- Ability to travel to schools in your region or to provide services online.
Our sessions will take place on weekdays either during the school day or in the evening.
In return we will provide our volunteers with extra skills and resources for careers advice, plus a reference for when they leave.
*This is only required for specific events/sessions that we organise so do not worry if you do not have one currently. This can be arranged for you should it be necessary.
Time Commitment
Once a volunteer has successfully completed a Training & Selection session and has passed an Enhanced DBS check (if applicable), they are expected to have attended at least one event/session with our young people within 3 months of completing said training session. After that, there is no specific minimum commitment, however, we’d hope that volunteers help out where and when possible. Any guidance and inspiration that the young people can get from our volunteers is important for what it is that their future holds.
