On the 15th August 2024 students will find out the grades they have been awarded from their Level 3 studies – typically A Levels and BTEC National Diplomas. It’s an intense and worrying time for young people who face big decisions, choosing their next step on the path to a fulfilling future. MyBigCareer volunteers are there, in-person, to help.

Guidance and reassurance

We’re expecting 2024 to be a tough year for the students who have not attained the grades they’d expected. That’s why we’re recruiting teams of volunteer Results Day Advisors to be on hand in our partner schools in London and the North East of England to give guidance and reassurance, helping students navigate their next steps to university and work.

You could be a Results Day Advisor

Students from less advantaged backgrounds often lack the resources or contacts within their own networks to help them pursue the pathway that best suits their needs and aspirations. As a volunteer Results Day Advisor, you could be there for the young people who need it most, offering calm support, advice and encouragement. We look for individuals who are compassionate, enthusiastic and motivated to help young people achieve their potential.

A deep understanding of the UK education system is not necessary, it’s more important that you are available to attend a school in London, Newcastle, Middlesbrough or Durham areas on the morning of August 15th.

To be a great A-Level Results Day Advisor you will need…

The ability to start a conversation and build rapport with a wide range of people

Being comfortable talking to young people

Listening skills – asking open, constructive questions and listening actively to responses

Consulting & matching skills – making prudent, tailored suggestions

Creativity – ability to think creatively and propose engaging ideas and solutions

Being able to convey ideas simply and clearly with positivity and enthusiasm

What the day will involve

As a MyBigCareer volunteer Advisor on Results Day 2024 you will attend one of our partner schools to support each young person by:

  • Helping them prepare for their calls to universities and navigate UCAS Clearing.
  • Providing encouragement and building their confidence
  • Supporting them to make important decisions arising from their positive conversations
  • Talking through next steps and empowering them to move things forward
